Trails: Franklin Road end road car park – go Mangakino Valley  – Dean Track, or Deans Track, or some map Deam Track – Mangakino Pack Track to Daly’s Clearing Hut – pass the junction of Daly’s Clearing Track – pass Mangakino Shelter – pass the junction of  Tui Saddle track – Waiorongomai Saddle, end of Mangakino Pack Track – Waipapa Track – Waitawheta Hut, end of Waipapa Track – Waitawheta Tramway – pass junction of Bluff Stream Kauri Grove Loop Track – pass junction of Daly’s Clearing Track – track on farmland – Franklin Road car park.

Note: Experienced trampers only! A section of Mangakino Pack Track was destroyed by a large landslid. New Waipapa Track links Waiorongomai Saddle and Waitawheta Hut without any junctions between them! (you still can see two junctions between them on some maps).

Car Park: End of Franklin Rd. It’s about 135 km and 1:45 hrs drive from Auckland city center.

The “Total Time” is my time in Feb which includes morning tea, lunch time and breaks. That day was fine. Tracks were good. If you slow down to average 3.5 km/h plus 90 min stop then the total time will be around 10:15 hrs.
