Karangahake Gorge Historic Walkway


Trails: Off State Highway 2 Karangahake Historic Walks car park – Footbridge – Karangahake Gorge Historic Walkway – Waterfalls – Owharoa Falls – Victoria Battery – Retrace back to Railway Tunnel – Railway Tunnel Loop – Car park.

Note: You may need a torch when walk through the tunnel. Alternatively an easier walk is just walk the Railway Tunnel Loop.

Car Park: Yes. Just set “-37.42196,175.72007” in your GPS. It’s about 125km and 1.5 hrs driving from Auckland city center.
Public Toilet: Yes

The “Total Time” is my time in November which includes morning tea time and breaks. That day was fine and the track was good. If you slow down to average 3.0 km/h plus 60 min stop then the total time will be around 6hrs.
